The Shropshire Constructing Excellence committee members are volunteers with a range of specialisms, drawn from member organisations.
Chair, Paul Moran, PaveAways Ltd
Paul is the Business Development Director for Shropshire construction company PaveAways Ltd. Paul joined thePaveAways team in 2018 and is responsible for enhancing existing client support function and exploring new opportunities within a variety of sectors. He is a chartered surveyor and the former Estates and Facilities Manager at Harper Adams University.
Vice Chair, Ruth Shepherd, Results Communications
Ruth is the Founding Director of Results Communications Ltd, specialising in communications, stakeholder engagement and consultation services for public and private sector clients. She has over 25 years’ experience of providing strategic advice and guidance, as well as practical support for clients in the construction and infrastructure sectors. She is an Associate of the Consultation Institute and is an accredited Member of the Chartered Institute for Public Relations. In her ‘spare’ time, Ruth sits on the Board of The Marches Local Enterprise Partnership, and is an Enterprise Advisor, a CITB GoConstruct Ambassador and a Town Councillor.
Treasurer, Tim Lloyd, CQS Solutions
Tim is the Principal of CQS Solutions Ltd which was established in 2007 to provide professional quantity surveying, cost management and project management services to small and medium-sized contractors in the construction industry. Tim gained his degree in Quantity Surveying and Construction Cost Management at the University of Wolverhampton whilst working and training with Wales Construction in the Midlands. Tim has worked as a Quantity Surveyor since 2001 on a wide range of projects, sectors and contract types.
Committee member, Richard Lumby, Consultant and Interim Manager
Richard is an executive with over 25 years experience in leading a variety of businesses in the construction, civil engineering and facilities services sectors. He now works as a consultant and interim manager as well as, a coach, mentor and non-executive director. A chartered civil engineer, he moved to Shropshire in the mid 1980s to work on the construction of the Oswestry bypass. From graduating, he was employed by Tarmac and then Carillion working for clients across local and central government and the private sector. He was head of Tarmac Civil Engineering’s constructing excellence programme in the mid 1990s and later became managing director of Carillion’s Mechanical and Electrical Engineering business when it pioneered 3D design and modular production in the early 2000s. Richard is an advocate for collaborative working, sustainability and diversity as well as, customer centric delivery of projects and services. Richard is the Vice Chair of the Shropshire Business Board.
Committee member, Trevor Oakley, CITB
Trevor is the Construction Industry Training Board Adviser for the Marches and joined the Midland and North CITB Partnerships Team in 2016. As well as working closely with key stakeholders from across the Marches, Trevor works with SME’s, Construction Training Groups, Federations and large construction employers, supporting them in; diagnosing skills gaps, advising on apprenticeships, encouraging training which helps build a safe, professional and fully qualified workforce and applying for CITB grants and funding.
Committee member, Brian Aikman, FBC Manby Bowdler
Brian is a partner at Shropshire law firm FBC Manby Bowdler. Brian heads up the Shropshire Commercial Litigation Team and specialises in insolvency, shareholder disputes, dispute resolution and property litigation. He has gained a particular reputation in the field of contentious corporate recovery work. In addition, Brian’s Shropshire team provides litigation support to the firm’s Agricultural & Rural Department, working for local agricultural businesses and estate clients.
Committee member Vicki Ayton, CREST@UCS
Vicki is a Business Development Manager with CREST@UCS with expertise in stakeholder engagement and business development. Vicki has worked in the private, public and not-for-profit sector in UK roles and worldwide and has also been self-employed. Before taking up her role at CREST@UCS she worked in economic development at Telford & Wrekin Council leading specifically on employment and skills, strategy and development and providing SME business support as part of ERDF programmes.
Committee member, Amy Bould, Be Bold PR
Amy Bould is the creative force behind Be Bold PR, where she leads a cast of award-winning PR, print and broadcast professionals sharing the stories of amazing people and businesses across the Midlands. A former news and business editor with the Shropshire Star, Amy’s a trusted communications adviser to many organisations and businesses in the public and private sectors and across a range of industries including construction and manufacturing. Amy has been on the management committee for SCE for a number of years supporting growth in Shropshire’s construction and built environment sectors.
Committee member, Suzanne Johnston
Suzanne is the founder of PS Partnerships & Consultancy, supporting the construction industry with quality, environmental and health and safety accreditations and certification. She works with businesses across the UK simplifying and streamlining their management systems so that they are adopted, make continuous business improvements and achieve the accreditations needed to win new contracts and support their customers and employees. PS Partnerships also provides consultancy on plastics used in the construction sector, particularly sustainability, material selection and failure analysis.
Committee member, Siobhan Martin, Apt and BiT
Siobhan is the Business Manager for apT, the region’s first public sector Development Consultancy of its kind. Leading the Business Support Team, Siobhan oversees delivery of the enhanced and technical administration services. She has a keen interest in developing professional skills within the construction sector via apprenticeships and work placements.
Committee member, Donna Owen, Alumasc Building
Donna has worked in the construction industry for more than 15 years. She works closely with architects, design managers and main contractors, mitigating the client’s risk on the building envelope. She offers support through design, tender and construction stages and specialises in CIF bid applications as well as providing survey reports and product specification.
Committee member, Matt Potts, Invest in Shropshire
Matt is the Business Growth & Inward Investment Manager at Invest in Shropshire. He leads four teams within the Economic Growth Service and is responsible for growing the reputation of Shropshire for investment and business activity. His key roles include leading on the delivery of an effective key account management process, generating and delivering inward investment, directing all business support and grow on services including delivery of the Marches Growth Hub in Shropshire, European funding and skills and careers and enterprise engagement.
