The new town estate of Woodside in South Telford was built in the early 1970s to the failed "Radburn" design.

Unfortunately, by the late 1990's and early 2000s, it was the worst performing estate in the borough.

In 2003, the Woodside Regeneration Partnership was created to drive forward a regeneration programme for the estate, which contains over 2,000 properties.

TWC are leading on regenerating the area with financial support coming from the Council, the Homes and Communities Agency (formerly English Partnerships), Advantage West Midlands, Government Office for the West Midlands and the Wrekin Housing Trust.

Projects now in progress:

  • Planning consent granted for Bellway Homes for 186 units of new housing on the former Courts site.
  • Local centre infrastructure scheme, to provide improved access and public realm, started on site in February 2010.
  • Local centre shops and housing - sites identified and development partner being selected.
  • North Woodside (Phase 1) - remodelling of the housing areas of Wildwood and Woodrows (327 properties) being designed for consultation with residents later in 2010.

Projects complete:

  • Demolition of blocks of flats known as the "Courts". A total of 363 properties were demolished between 2003 and 2005
  • Remodelling of the West 1 (385 properties) and West 2 (435 properties) housing areas to reduce the impact of the Radburn design
  • Construction of the award-winning Park Lane Centre, a multi-use community building which won the RegenWM regional best practice award in November 2007.
  • Construction of the 54 unit Parkwood Extra Care housing scheme by Wrekin Housing Trust
