Work has now started to improve Wellington with a new Civic Quarter and a town centre paving scheme.

Projects in progress:

  • New look £8.5 million Civic Quarter using the town's existing leisure centre and linking to the former Gwynne's building via the new look Larkin Way.
  • Work is now under way to repave New Street and is expected to last until October 2010.

Following consultation with the public, the plans for the Civic Quarter development will include a new registry office, a new modernised library with internet connection, refurbished leisure facilities including a larger gym, improved swimming pool and changing areas, new office space, a single reception and cafe area and new public toilets.

Contractors GF Tomlinson are on site carrying out the project, which is due for completion September 2011.

Projects completed:

  • Relocation and improvements to Wellington’s bus and taxi interchange greatly improving access to Wellington train station, linking bus and train services for the first time. Improved security for the area includes a new CCTV system to both bus and rail stations.
