The new town estate of Sutton Hill was built around 40 years ago and contains around 1,150 properties - the majority of which are two or three bedroom, two storey terraced houses.
As part of our commitment to regenerate the three new town estates in South Telford, TWC consulted with Sutton Hill residents in 2008 to identify priorities for improvement. The survey showed local people wanted a more attractive local centre with better quality shops.
Projects in progress:
We are now working with the Homes and Communities Agency to invest around £7m in creating a new local centre.
An exhibition of proposals in September 2009 provided useful feedback and detailed designs were then exhibited in March 2010. The plans were well received and a planning application will now be submitted.
The proposals will improve access to the local centre and provide for two new shops in an upgraded public realm.
As a second phase, a number of houses are being acquired and will be demolished to make way for new, high quality housing.
