The overall long term vision for Newport is: "To develop Newport as a place where people want to live, work, visit and shop and where people can celebrate Newport's history, while building for the future".
Projects in progress:
-
A £700,000 makeover of Newport High Street and Central Square
The contract for the scheme has now been awarded to West Midlands based construction firm Fitzgeralds. Preparation work will start on Newport High Street in June 2010. Work will include repaving the entire area, new lighting and new street furniture such as seating and litter bins.
- The £330,000 redesign of Victoria Park got under way in March and will be officially opened in July ’10.
Plans for the work are now on display in Newport Library and the Guildhall.
Projects completed:
- A comprehensive Public Realm Design Code for the town has been drawn up to make sure all improvements are in line with Newport's heritage.
