Ironbridge plays an important role within Telford and Wrekin as the commercial heart of the World Heritage Site and of course for the location of the world's first iron bridge (listed grade 1).
Telford & Wrekin Council have recently been working to give the historic town a fresh spring clean in time for the start of the local tourist season. The work has been carried out as part of our Borough Towns Initiative which aims to make improvements to each important centre in Telford and Wrekin and to help attract more residents, businesses and visitors.
Projects in progress:
- Production of design standards for the areas of public realm (including car parks, street furniture, repairs to roads and walls etc)
- Grant scheme to encourage property owners to undertake building improvements.
Projects completed:
- Removal of redundant poles and signposts, replacement street lights, and resurfacing the Wharfage car park.
- Repainted all posts such as floodlights, lampposts and CCTV camera supports in heritage black in keeping with the historic nature of the World Heritage site. • Refurbishment of public toilets
