Dave Jones and Steve Hampton, directors Jones and Hampton Ltd have been developing the business for 10 years supplying general building, electrical, gas and emergency services to Housing Associations and Local Authorities in and around the Telford area.

Dave and Steve where so moved and inspired during a visit to a sustainable building centre in Leamington Spa where they learned about the future issues regarding energy supply and global warming they decided to install their own Solar Panel System on their factory roof in Halesfield. Jones_Hampton_Solar_1

Overseeing the installation was their works manager Tom Robinson Jones “The installation was a surprisingly uncomplicated and included minor alterations to the structure of the roof, fitting of the mounting system, electrical work and commissioning.

The installation is robust and will easily substantiate a 25 year plus investment. The simplicity of the Pv system itself is inspirational and all that worked on the project where inspired, excited and keen to do more installations of this type. This system consisting of 54 solar panels and we believe it to be the first of this type in Telford. We see this as our flag-ship installation and are looking to replicate this wher-ever possible on domestic, commercial and public buildings alike.”

As a result of this installation Jones and Hampton have gained MCS accreditation, this will allow them to replicate this type of project for all our existing and future customers alike. On all levels this project has been a positive experience:

  • Clean, renewable energy source (environmental) – Generating a maximum of 8000 Kwh per annum, the equiva-lent of 4.6 tonnes of fossil fuel saved! Supporting the renewable energy industry for a cleaner energy source in the future. If replicated across the country these technologies can play a significant part in providing clean en-ergy to the country!
  • Feed in Tariff (financial) – It makes financial sense, The feed in tariff was introduced in April 2010 to instigate the installation of Micro-generation technologies, to help to reward those committed to clean renewable energy sources, and create a financial opportunity with a 10 per cent return on investment consisting of the feed in tariff itself, saving on ever increasing fuel prices along with an option to gain extra moneys from selling excess elec-tricity back to the grid. • Feel Good Factor (ethical) – The impact the human race has on the planet is becoming more and more present every day. We see this as a genuine way of making our own contribution to reducing a global problem. It feels great to be producing our own electricity on site, supporting and promoting a foreword thinking industry capable of seeing a bigger, more global picture.

Tom says “if any like minded individuals, professionally or privately would be interested in looking at our installation we would be happy to show them around, please ring me on 01952 580120 or drop me an email at tomr@jonesandhampton.com

As a nation we produce less than 0.2 per cent micro generation electricity as a pose to the Germans at almost 16 per-cent! In short we have a long way yet to go to catch up with our European counter partners as far as clean renewable energy goes!
