The rapidly expanding opportunities for Shropshire businesses and homeowners to take advantage of renewable energy will be on full display at a major exhibition next month.
Visitors to the free Green Expo 2011 event will be able to discover how to generate their own electricity, manage waste and cut carbon as well as hear briefings on the cutting-edge eco-technologies on offer in the marketplace.
Aimed at both businesses and individuals, the Marches Environmental Technology Network event will provide top tips and expert advice on how visitors can improve their green credentials.
Organisers Ludlow-based metnet said the Green Expo in Worcester would focus on energy and resource efficiency, waste reduction and how renewables could be a solution for businesses or homeowners looking to cut their energy bills.
More than 50 companies from Shropshire, Herefordshire and Worcestershire are exhibiting at the afternoon event which follows the metnet conference taking place earlier in the day.
Patricia Head, metnet project manager, said: “The event is open to everyone and free to attend, and it isn't just for business. During the Expo, we will be briefing visitors on the technologies now available to help them lower their energy costs, manage waste and improve their green credentials.
“From solar power to ground source heat pumps and wind turbines to biomass, we have companies representing the full spectrum of environmental products and services. We will also be hosting seminars for visitors which will explain the details of the Government's Green Deal, the Renewable Heat Incentive and the Feed-in-Tariffs.”
“Businesses which are looking to improve cost efficiency and reduce energy costs, manage waste and find renewable solutions will be able to speak to companies which are leaders in the environmental sector. And individuals looking to reduce their energy bills by installing biomass boilers, solar pv or even wind turbines on their land will have experts on hand to explain what options are available.”
Among the companies exhibiting at the event are Shrewsbury-based 7energy which designs and installs renewable energy systems for wind turbine and solar pv panels; Greenspace Architects, of Ellesmere which specialises in the retrofit of existing homes and businesses and the creation of sustainable new developments and Ludlow-based sustainable car company Riversimple, who will be showcasing its hydrogen fuel cell car.
Also at the Expo, which is on November 10 at Sixways Stadium, Worcester, is Shrewsbury environmental consultancy E4Environment with its Green Achiever scheme.
Mandy Stoker, director of E4Environment and Shropshire chairman of metnet said: “The exhibition will be a one-stop-shop for information, advice and guidance on everything from cutting carbon to reducing waste and installing renewable energy solutions. It is a chance for visitors to see how cutting-edge technology and innovations are revolutionising the way we used energy, and cutting bills for businesses and consumers.”
The Green Expo follows on metnet's conference being held earlier in the day for businesses which are involved in, or looking to diversify into, the environmental technology sector. Guest speaker is environmetal entrepreneur Reed Paget, founder of Belu Water, the UK's most eco-friendly and fastest growing bottled water brand.
