Member Description:
The Engineering Services Business unit is a fee earning in–house engineering consultancy currently comprising two engineering teams of 31 professional and technical engineering staff. The unit is responsible for providing the engineering consultancy function for the authority, as well as for external clients and includes the design and implementation of engineering schemes involving:

- Civils
- Highways
- Drainage
- Structural
- Geotechnical and
- General Municipal works

In addition, the teams are responsible for providing engineering advice to both internal and external customers including engineering advice on planning, building control and land search issues.

The engineering teams are also responsible for the management of a number of the authority’s assets and client functions including:

- Highway Structures (Bridges & Retaining walls)
- Land Stability
- Land Drainage
- Ironbridge Flood Defences
- Pools and Reservoirs
- Stoney Hill Closed Landfill Site

The unit also works closely with the Council’s external engineering partner, Jacobs in the delivery of the larger engineering schemes. It also manages a two year term contract with a major civil engineering contractor enabling a speedy delivery of schemes up to a value of £75,000. This facility is open to all customers of the unit.
